ABOUT ANDY
Andy Ainsworth is a UK-based photographer specialising in natural, unposed portraits, street photography, and candid event coverage. His journey began in 2000 when his work in custom stainless-steel fabrication brought him into the world of professional photography. After meeting photographer John Brandwood — who photographed Andy’s creations for motorcycle magazines — Andy fell in love with the craft, the studio environment, and the creative process behind the lens.
He purchased his first professional camera, the Nikon D700, and threw himself into learning through practice and online training. John later invited him to assist at weddings, where Andy’s talent for capturing genuine human expression began to shine. Over the next year, Andy developed a signature style of natural, heartfelt portraiture — shaped by John’s guidance and by the belief that “the hardest thing to photograph is a human being.”
When John was injured in a car accident, Andy was asked to step in as the lead photographer at a wedding with just one day’s notice. That moment marked the start of a year in which he photographed 52 weddings, building confidence, technical skill, and a strong reputation. Together, he and John later returned to commercial photography, covering large-scale events, product photography, and stage productions where timing, lighting, and precision were crucial.
Today, Andy blends classic photographic knowledge with modern tools and technology. He enjoys creating 360° videos, VR-style presentations, timecoded content, and YouTube photowalks on his channel, The Street Photographers. His passion for portraiture, street photography, and fine-art black and white printing (using his Epson P900) continues to shape his creative output.
Andy is also a natural teacher, drawing from years of training apprentices in welding and fabrication. He specialises in teaching beginners and those who struggle with technical concepts, using a simple, practical approach:
take a picture, look at the result, and adjust based on what you expected.
This hands-on method helps learners truly understand exposure, composition, and camera control.
